Acupuncture is an alternative medicine practice rooted in traditional Chinese medicine. It involves the insertion of thin needles into the body. While acupuncture has gained popularity, it’s important to note that it is considered a pseudoscience, as the theories and practices of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) lack a scientific basis and have been criticized as quackery.
Acupuncture has evolved into various variants influenced by different philosophies and techniques, which can vary based on the country where it’s performed. These approaches can be broadly categorized into two foundational philosophical applications: the modern standardized form known as ‘eight principles’ TCM, and an older system rooted in ancient Taoist principles, often referred to as the ‘five elements’ or ‘phases’ in the Western world.”
Acupuncture is most often used to attempt pain relief, though acupuncturists say that it can also be used for a wide range of other conditions. is generally used only in combination with other forms of treatment.
