We’ve cherished a lifelong friendship since our serendipitous meeting at the tender age of 4 on the first day of primary school. From the very beginning, our lives have been intricately woven together with shared experiences and lasting bonds. Fond childhood memories revolve around baking escapades, where we gleefully experimented with ‘recipes’ that, thankfully, only family members were brave enough to taste. Over the years, our culinary skills have evolved, turning our once amateur endeavors into delectable masterpieces!

As the sands of time flowed, and our waistlines expanded alongside the growth of our families, we found ourselves gravitating back to the heart of our shared passion—baking. Amidst the joyful chaos of our kitchens, filled with the laughter of little ones, the realization dawned upon us: the flame of our love for baking still burned bright. And thus, with the delightful taste of a mouthful of brownie, the concept of the ‘Fat Birds’ was born!

At our bakery, we hold a firm belief that cakes should not only look stunning but also deliver an exquisite taste experience. Fueled by the disappointment of encountering visually appealing yet dry and tasteless cakes in various cafes and coffee shops, our journey began.

As a trained chef seeking a new challenge, I delved into the treasure trove of old family recipe books passed down by my Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. From these cherished, hand-written pages emerged a collection of our favorite traditional recipes, which we continue to refine and expand upon. Our commitment to excellence drives us to explore new ideas and inspirations through constant research and testing.

Specializing in crafting exceptional, handmade cakes for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and various celebrations, we also supply artisan cakes to some of the finest coffee shops and delis across the Harrogate area.

Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that cakes should be made the traditional way, reminiscent of how we would bake for our own family – with flour, butter, and eggs. We steer clear of lengthy lists of unpronounceable chemicals, opting instead for the use of fresh, local produce, including Free Range eggs and dairy. Natural colors and flavors take precedence in our creations, with an unwavering commitment to excluding preservatives or enhancers. This dedication ensures that every cake we create not only dazzles on the outside but delights the taste buds within.
