Croquet is an engaging and strategic game where players, using mallets, skillfully guide wooden balls through a series of wickets laid out on a manicured lawn. It involves the art of cleverly displacing your opponent’s croquet ball by striking your own ball against it.

Located at our new premises within Studley Royal Cricket Club on Galphay Road in Ripon, we’re thrilled to announce three free taster sessions to celebrate our recent move. Mark your calendars for these sessions:

  1. Monday, April 25th, 10 AM – 12 PM and 6 PM – 8 PM.
  2. Wednesday, April 27th, 10 AM – 12 PM.

We provide all the necessary equipment and expert coaching during these sessions. Just bring along some comfortable trainers or flat shoes. To secure your spot, please register via email at secretary@riponspacroquetclub.org.

We welcome newcomers who may eventually become valued members of our club! Feel free to reach out to the Secretary (contact information above) for more information.

Our club afternoons are on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but you can enjoy the game all week through our club website, Ripon Spa Croquet Club.

Are you in search of a unique and enjoyable way to celebrate birthdays, retirement parties, or office gatherings? Why not gather a group and join us for one of our delightful croquet, cake, and coffee sessions, priced at just £5 per person. We supply all the necessary equipment and guidance. You can book these sessions through the Secretary (contact details above).

The game is typically played with two sides, each having black and blue balls or red and yellow balls. The objective is to advance the balls across the lawn, earning a point for each hoop completed in the correct order and direction. The victors are the first to accumulate the 6 hoop points and then secure one peg point for each of their balls. For a visual reference, please consult the provided diagram for the layout, order, and scoring of hoop points. Ultimately, the winning side will amass a total of 14 points.

Games can be played as singles (one player per side) or doubles (two players per side), with the same rules applying to both formats. Details on how to play doubles are available later in this document.

During a turn, players take alternating shots, with only one player active at any given time. A turn begins with the “striker” and their one allotted shot. The turn concludes once the striker exhausts their extra shots, if any. The opponent then takes their turn.
