Home Visiting Scheme

When you join Supporting Older People, our dedicated Activities & Befriending Manager, Julia, will personally visit your home for an informal chat. During this meeting, Julia will take the time to learn more about your interests and your expectations from our Home Visiting Scheme.

Julia’s expertise lies in carefully matching individuals like you with like-minded volunteers. These volunteers have committed to spending one or two hours regularly visiting one or more of our members. Importantly, all our volunteers have been thoroughly screened by the Disclosure & Barring Service, and we’ve diligently collected references from two people who know them well.

Once we’ve found a suitable volunteer match for you, Julia will reach out, schedule a convenient time, and arrange to come and introduce your chosen volunteer. At Supporting Older People, we take pride in our meticulous approach to matching members with volunteers, and we have a solid track record of creating enduring friendships through this process.

Our Home Visiting Scheme is a complimentary service, but we graciously accept contributions to help cover its costs.

Telephone Befriending

Could a friendly call from a dedicated volunteer brighten your day? Whether you want to discuss your interests or simply have a pleasant chat, contact and conversation play a crucial role in our overall well-being.

Sometimes, staying in touch with loved ones can be challenging. You might have lost touch with old friends or family, or health concerns could be limiting your interactions. In such cases, a regular phone call from a trustworthy and amiable volunteer can make a world of difference. All our volunteers are enthusiastic about listening, conversing, and getting to know you.

We offer flexible call schedules that can be weekly, fortnightly, or monthly—whatever works best for you. Additionally, we can even arrange ad hoc phone calls if you’ve had recent changes in your life. We’re here to keep you connected and engaged.

North Yorkshire Sport who are based at Bilton Health & Wellbeing Hub, (the old Bilton Youth Club on Biltin Lane) regularly donates food for the Salvation Army foodbank and at Christmas they collect gifts for disadvantaged children and families who find Christmas a particularly challenging time (financially).
The Salvation Army have contacted them again this year hoping we will be able to support them as they are expecting an increase in numbers as many more people face hardship.
This year they specifically request presents for babies, older boys (aged 8 to teens) gifts for adults, and chocolates/sweets
If you could consider donating something that would be brilliant, it doesn’t have to be anything flash or expensive as ANYTHING helps.
The drop bin is available in the waiting area but the collection date is much earlier than usual w/c 15th November. If you are willing and able to help then please do drop in and donate. Together we can help give a little comfort to someone else this Christmas.
