Description :
Hello. I’m Rob Hutchinson, a magician based in Ripon but available to perform all around Harrogate & District, Yorkshire and beyond.
A member of the Harrogate Society of Magicians, I’m a close-up and stage entertainer, having appeared at the Frazer Theatre (during Knaresborough’s annual FEVA festival). I’ve also performed magic for local organisations as varied as Alfred Hymas Ltd and Easy Learning Shop in Ripon, and have entertained cast members of ITV’s ever-popular Emmerdale.
‘You were absolutely brilliant, Rob! I’m still trying to figure out some of those card tricks. Genuinely fantastic.’ Chris Livesey (Wedding, Ripon Spa Hotel)
‘Rob kept 25 2-8 year olds entertained for two hours which is magic in itself! The magic was brilliant, it kept the children and adults guessing long after the party. Will definitely hire again. Thank you Rob.’ Philippa Di Silvestro
As a non-believer of magic, I was left mind blown by the tricks of Rob. Lovely friendly guy & great tricks. Definitely recommend him Michael de Bond
Rob’s magic was so amazing. No idea how he does it.’ Tracey Cunningham (Guest at a 60th birthday party))

Magic, encompassing various subgenres such as illusion, stage magic, and close-up magic, is a captivating performing art that delights audiences with tricks, effects, and seemingly impossible illusions using natural means. It is crucial to distinguish it from paranormal magic, which claims to achieve effects through supernatural means. Magic stands as one of the most ancient and enduring performing arts in the world.
Modern entertainment magic, pioneered by the 19th-century magician Jean-Eugène Robert-Houdin, has evolved into a popular and theatrical art form. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, magicians like Maskelyne and Devant, Howard Thurston, Harry Kellar, and Harry Houdini achieved significant commercial success during what we now recognize as the “Golden Age of Magic.” During this period, performance magic became a staple of Broadway theater, vaudeville, and music halls. Magic continued to captivate audiences in the television age, with magicians like Paul Daniels, David Copperfield, Doug Henning, Penn & Teller, David Blaine, and Derren Brown contributing to the modernization of the art form.
Magic magazine, the world’s largest-selling publication for magicians, compiled a list of the “100 most influential magicians of the 20th century” who significantly contributed to the modern development of the art of magic. According to this list, titled “Those Who Most Affected The Art in America,” Houdini holds the first rank, followed by Dai Vernon, David Copperfield, Harry Blackstone, Doug Henning, Tarbell, Cardini, Mark Wilson, Siegfried and Roy, and Thurston at number 10, in decreasing order of influence.
